The Importance Of Emotional Intelligence At Work

Faced with a new form of measuring intelligence, some flourish and succeed better than others... So, do we look for IQ or EQ?

Today we talk much more freely about our emotions and about how we live together.
Current recruitment firms are now no longer exclusively looking at results relating to IQ (Intellectual Quotient) tests, but rather also to the EQ (Emotional Quotient or Emotional Intelligence) test, which they are integrating in their reviews and executive searches.

What are we talking about?
The Emotional Quotient is an individual's ability to exist alongside other people and to grow with them. Also, to identify and manage their emotions, in order to best adapt in their relationships with other people.
At the same level as with IQ results, leading recruiting firms will favor a candidate with a developed EQ and even select a candidate with an IQ lower than another, but with a balanced or even high Emotional Quotient, according to the needs of recruiters and the position to be filled.

Should we go back to quality rather than quantity; an IQ that will be supplanted by an EQ?
Defining emotions still seems to be a complex thing, and has been a subject of debate among psychologists and philosophers for over a century. There are hundreds of emotions with their combinations, variations and mutations. Some theorists classify them by basic families and those most often mentioned are anger, sadness, fear, pleasure, love, surprise and shame.

I admit that I am a little dubious about this brief classification which nevertheless brings out at least 4 emotions with rather negative connotations on a list of 7! Does equality speak to you? Positive psychology? Where are the important emotions like having confidence, self-esteem and kindness, for example?
Personally, I am a person with a high emotional quotient, which has sometimes made me question my own functioning. I  even thought I was dysfunctional; I'm not hiding that from you. So, it was good news for me when I discovered what emotional intelligence translates into and why I have felt different so often….

Making my way on the road of knowledge and understanding, I was finally able to realize that I am a person who sometimes has difficulties in managing my emotions because I am gifted with great sensitivity and many other qualities, of course! I am finally aware of the evil ... errr, the good that inhabits me and characterizes me, I decided to transform, change what I believed to be a weakness into a strength and a quality. So I put in place protective measures for myself in order to live serenely and develop this potential that I have, to make it evolve, in order to realize what I am myself, and what I really feel and not just what I would like to be.

Highlighted in the 90s, notably by Daniel GOLEMAN (Doctor of Psychology) who explains this form of intelligence in his book, which has been neglected. for such a long time “A person's IQ is not sufficient to define their intelligence, because it neglects an essential part of human behavior: emotional reactions."

Understanding emotional intelligence is a journey into the land of emotions, to finally learn to balance your "emotional" brain and your "rational" brain. A rich learning subject such as the idea of interpersonal intelligence, which is the ability to understand others and to interact. And, interpersonal intelligence which is the key to self-knowledge.

The advice from Womensdestiny:
Take a trip to the land of your emotions. Welcoming, feeling and identifying your emotions allows you to better live with them when they are exacerbated. Do not be afraid of your emotions, as they can also be a powerful source of blessings and inspiration. They become an asset when you learn to manage them well.
