Today, my timeless beauties, let's move on to aesthetics!
Hyaluronic acid, miracle molecule?
It's time for a little etymology lesson... To do it, let's go to Greece! Hyalos, means glassy. In fact, this acid was first isolated in the vitreous eye humors of cows! And what about the word “uronic” then? Well, it’s due to the high amount of uronic acid that makes up hyaluronic acid.
So, what are its benefits? Hyaluronic acid has great benefits: hygroscopic (retains moisture), viscoelastic (viscous and elastic) and antioxidant properties. This acid also participates in many cellular processes such as inflammation, immune reactions, angiogenesis (the process of forming new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels) and healing.
It is therefore not a primitive molecule but a remarkable molecule! (Let's not go so far as talking about it being a miracle though!)
We already have it under our skin… But what is its role?
In a context relating to our skin, the role of hyaluronic acid is to achieve hydration through its viscoelasticity and its ability to capture water. More simply, it is therefore responsible for the plumpness of our skin and the freshness of our complexion.
Used for filling wrinkles and loss of facial volume, hyaluronic acid can be used by injection or by application of creams. If injections are desired, then the hyaluronic acid present in the injection solution has undergone cross-linking. This means that in order to increase the life of the hyaluronic acid, the molecules will be united with one other. The product can then remain longer in your dermis (between 6 and 12 months).
We therefore agree on the fact that this acid is a moisturizer and can renew tightness and elasticity. But still, caution is the key word, as any injection is not without its dangers!
Are there really any dangers associated with injections?
The product itself does not seem to present any real danger, since our body produces it naturally. However, all kinds of surgery have risks. After injections, itching and redness can develop. Some individuals may also develop hematomas and oedema.
Advice before injection!
It is advisable to avoid taking aspirin and anti-inflammatories, as well as smoking that last little cigarette before injection!
The most important point is to ensure that the person injecting you is qualified and a true professional! If, for example, someone offers you or is ready to inject hyaluronic acid into your breasts, think about refusing this! If there is hyaluronic acid in your breasts, this can disturb the images during breast cancer screening and induce difficulties in palpating the breasts.
There have also been people who have publicized issues across the globe: vascular occlusions, septicemia, bacterial infections, you name it, they can happen. Some of these can be caused by having repeated injections before the previous injections have healed. Injections cause wounds and it is imperative that hygiene is of the essence at the time of injection and afterwards, and that the wounds can heal as they should.
