Despite the sexual revolution of the 1960s, the fact is that many Americans and Europeans still believe that sex is taboo. Each person has different sexual preferences, and while there are those who don’t mind being heard when in bed, there are also others who choose to remain silent, for fear of being called vulgar.
Leaders of the sexual revolution
Researchers now say that another sexual revolution is underway, as evidenced by the high rating of shows with sexual content. In a recent study conducted by Jean Twenge of the University of San Diego, it was discovered that 50% of teenage girls had already had sex, and are also considered to be the leaders of the new sexual revolution. And yes, it is our children, much younger than they were before, who are revolutionizing this new world. The issue of oral sex is now seen in a new light, as more and more teens no longer see it as being disgusting. The trend shows that sex has crossed the boundaries of relationships, marriage and desire, in order to go in search of pleasure.
Parental reactions
With sexual awareness among adolescents, how many parents have bothered to educate their children about the pros (if any) and harms of having sex so early? Studies show that parents prefer to pretend their children have no idea what sex is and that talking about it would only make them more curious, which could lead them to experiment more.
But that certainly is not the case. Kids can now access sites featuring couples having live sex, or a live sex show with hot models as the stars. No, today's teens are no longer as innocent as we would like, and despite the many precautions which parents take to prevent their children from accessing such content, such as parental controls, this is not enough. Children still need to be educated by their parents. They need to know that they aren't the only ones feeling things like arousal or even concerning masturbation. Children are confused and in order for them to be properly guided towards their roles in society, parents still have the lion’s share of the responsibility.
Risk factors
I still believe that the biggest problem with teenagers is that, technically speaking, they're still kids. Apart from this, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases can easily affect adolescents, as most of them refuse to follow the lessons taught in sex education.
People attribute teenage pregnancy to the proliferation of sexual media and the easy access to pornographic sites. It is true that several studies have established a link between early sexual experimentation and sexual innuendo on television and in movies.
I would like to end this article with figures that speak for themselves, according to the WHO, nearly 16 million young girls aged 15 to 19 and some 1 million girls under the age of 15 give birth to children every year.
Having a baby at such a young age, could cause parents a lot of worries.
