Their Therapeutic POWERS
The use of stones and crystal for Medical purposes, dates back to antiquity. For example, the Greeks used marble powder to fight against stomach pains. American Indians knew the benefits of clay and the antiseptic effects of copper. In the East, antimony was considered sovereign against infectious diseases and food poisoning. In India, iron sulphate was used as a de-wormer and the equivalent of saltpeter as a diuretic. In China, numerous mineral based cures were supposed to balance or stimulate the energies. During the medieval period in the west, alchemy often used crystals and stones to combat various diseases.
Lithotherapy is defined as the method of healing through the use of stones or crystals.
There are various traditional methods using stones for massage. A notable example if this would be the method of Amma massage in Japan, based on Chinese techniques using the points of the body (shiatsu) and Ayurvedic medicine in India, which uses polished stones as massage tools and as chromatherapy (colour therapy) to soothe the mind and body.
The crystals (raw, polished or carved) emit beneficial energy regardless of their form. The stones can be worn on the person, in the form of pendants, necklaces, bracelets or can be arranged in the rooms in their raw or polished form as a decoration.
Another healing method is the so-called "elixir" method. A crystal is immersed in distilled water or another solution that has had contact with the rays of the sun, the moon or has been left in darkness. The resulting liquid is ingested by the patient in a precise dosage that depends on the type of crystals used, the elixir and the desired effect.
In crystal therapy, a crystal can be placed on various parts of the body, according to the type of vibratory energy centres on certain points of the body (called chakras) to give different types of cleansing and healing. They can also be placed on other physical parts of the body for physical healing. For these, crystal healers use several different methods, according to the energy of the crystal being used.
Different crystals have different energy vibrations and so are used for different types of healing and on particular areas of the body, or on a particular chakra. Before using crystals, a cleansing method is often used. These may include the immersion of a crystal in distilled water, tap, spring or mineral water which may have salt added or not.
Please note that some crystals are water soluble, and so this cleansing treatment is not recommended for every type of stone. The placement of the stone or crystal into the earth in order to purify it is also a technique (salt water and earth are purported to act as neutralising agents where the energy will be drained, thus” purifying” the stone) or to place them on a neutral crystal, such as rock crystal. A “druse” crystal may also be used for some type of recharging, with has multiple small crystal points, where the stone to be cleansed is simply placed on this.
Solar energy, lunar energy can also be used to « recharge » the stones’ energy. One recharged, the crystals energy is cleansed and it may once again be used for crystal healing on the patient.
In lithotherapy, other beliefs also come into play, for example that every individual possesses chakras which, according to their state, exert an influence on the general attitude of the individual. The crystals help to calm down or rebalance the chakras.
Lithotherapy also often combines colour therapy: Each chakra is associated with a colour and crystals with this colour influence positively the related chakra.
For chakra healing, often a stone of the colour of the chakra is used for healing.
The resonance of the different crystals’ healing energy is very diverse and this is why some crystals work on some things and not on others and why their placement on the various chakras will have different effects.
Some people also believe crystals have benefits for physical healing, such as amethyst having the ability to remove headaches etc, however in for these physical treatments the energy is still often released through the chakra energy centres, in this case the amethyst is placed on the third eye chakra to “draw out” the headache through this.
